Any eye doctor worth their salt will tell you that you need to have your eyes examined at least once a year. That’s because there are many serious eye diseases that are asymptomatic in the early stages when detection is most critical. Here are three key signs that you need to schedule an eye exam ASAP:

1. When Your Vision Is Getting Worse
If you are straining to see things when you already have glasses or contacts, you should have your eyes examined right away. Vision problems, no matter how small, can make it very difficult to go about your everyday life. Eye strain can also lead to headaches when you read or sit in front of the computer for an extended period of time.
2. It’s Harder To See at Night
If you find yourself squinting when you pass by street signs at night, then you should definitely go visit your eye doctor. Your optometrist may recommend that you get eyeglasses with an anti-glare coating if you often drive at night or may prescribe lenses with an anti-reflective coating if you sit in front of the computer for hours at a time.
3. You’re Having Other Eye Troubles
If you feel that there may be something wrong with your eyes, you shouldn’t wait until the next appointment to have them examined. It is possible that you are experiencing early signs of eye disease, so you should definitely not delay. Eye pain, double vision, and halos or flashes around lights are all prompts that tell you that you need to see your eye doctor.
