Undergoing a comprehensive eye exam on a regular basis is an essential part of responsible eye care. In today’s post,, NOVA Vision Center walks you through what to expect during your eye exam.
One-on-One Interview
We will start by asking about your personal and family medical history. We’ll ask you about medications you take and any illnesses you or your close relatives have had. Since many eye diseases are hereditary, it’s important for us to understand your family medical history so we can assess your risk level for certain conditions.
Performing Appropriate Eye Tests
Your reliable eye doctor may then have you undergo different eye tests based on our interview. One standard procedure is the visual acuity test, in which we measure how sharp your eyesight is, helping us identify potential refractive errors.
We may also ask you to perform certain eye exercises such as focusing, accommodation, and tracking skills to evaluate your oculomotor skills. We may apply dilating eye drops as well, which lets us take a closer look at your eyes. This helps us check for underlying eye conditions.
Discussion of Our Findings and Recommended Management
The results of your exam will serve as the basis of our recommended treatment plan. If we find signs of refractive errors, for example, we’ll explain how wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses can help give you better eyesight. We will also help you choose the perfect type of corrective eyewear to suit your preferences. At this point, feel free to ask us any questions you may have as well.
